Hundreds of families in the States of Jersey have already taken advantage of free Triple P – Positive Parenting Program support being offered through schools since the programme rollout began in May.

As part of the new Department of Children, Young People, Education and Skills, a team of 30 trained and accredited Triple P providers now work across the island in schools, as parenting and family support teams, and for the Education Welfare Service.

“Feedback from parents so far has been exceptional and we know Triple P Positive Parenting delivery is already making a difference for Jersey families,” said Education Department’s Julian Radcliffe in a recent ITV news interview.

Parents can pick up a range a techniques to help resolve and prevent a range of common behavioural and emotional issues and strengthen family relationships, and can get help through one-to-one sessions or in groups.

“We try to give parents just the right amount of help,” says Triple P’s Dominic Weston. “Some may just need a small amount of advice or information, for example on getting the kids to bed, or managing siblings fighting. Other parents might be finding the job of parenting really exhausting and challenging. They might need a bit more help and support.”

To find out more about local Triple P sessions and services, parents can contact Patricia Tumelty, Parenting Co-ordinator at The Bridge, on 449152 or at P.Tumelty@gov.je.
